John Hubbard was born in the USA in 1931 and was educated at Harvard University. In his early 20's, he completed, three years service in the military, based in Japan.
After returning from service, Hubbard went on to study at the Art Students League in New York. He met his wife whilst travelling around Europe and settled in Dorset.
Hubbard's career has varied greatly; from teaching painting at London art schools, to designing set and costumes for the Dutch National Ballet and the Royal Ballet in London, and appearing on panels for the British Arts Council.
Hubbard continued to travel widely throughout his career and worked for a time at the National Gallery in Malaysia, which inspired him to create a series of tapestries. Hubbard has always had a passion for the natural environment which has led him to design a courtyard garden for a hospital in Dorset and a millennium garden tapestry for Waddesdon Manor.
His solo exhibitions include Marlborough Fine Art and the New Art Centre London, Dorset County Museum, Fischer Fine Art London, Bernard Jacobson New York, Yale Centre for British Art, various universities around the country, and many more.
John Hubbard still lives and works in Dorset.
